I've tried the Belkin cooling pad with the center fan. While it did work to a degree it was also noisy at times and did not last a year. This rubbermaid one is adjustable in height which I like, although it's a bit heavy sitting on your lap. But it does keep my Compaq laptop much cooler as it allows air to flow underneath. ...more

If this is something that is a concern for you (and you probably should look into the effects of it if you haven't) then you definitely won't want to use this product for storing leftovers and reheating in the microwave. I won't use it for that, nor will I wash these in the dishwasher. However, I buy my grains and nuts in bulk and needed storage for those items. This line is AWESOME for that.
